Why outsource

Why Malaysian SMEs outsource their accounting

A full-time accounts clerk costs at least the RM1,700 minimum wage plus the employer's EPF, SOCSO and EIS contributions, before training, leave cover and software. For most SMEs the monthly accounting work does not fill a full-time role, so outsourcing buys a complete service for less than one salary.

  • One fixed monthly fee agreed upfront; anything outside scope is quoted before we start.
  • No gap when staff resign, fall ill or go on leave.
  • Books closed every month, so Form C, SST and e-Invoice deadlines never become a scramble.
  • Reports you can act on, not just records kept for the tax agent.
  • Supporting documents filed with the entries and kept for the 7 years the law requires.

FAQ

Outsourced accounting in Malaysia: common questions

What is outsourced accounting?

Outsourced accounting means handing the recurring accounting work, such as recording transactions, bank reconciliation, receivables and payables, management accounts and e-Invoice support, to an external team for a monthly fee instead of employing staff. You keep ownership of your records and decisions; the year-end audit and tax filing stay with authorised professionals.

How much does outsourced accounting cost in Malaysia?

Fees depend on transaction volume, the number of bank accounts, payroll headcount, SST, inventory and how organised your documents are. WeCount's monthly packages run from RM388 to RM1,288, matched to volume, with out-of-scope work quoted separately.

Is outsourcing cheaper than hiring an in-house accounts clerk?

Usually, when the work does not fill a full month. An in-house hire costs at least the RM1,700 minimum wage plus the employer's EPF, SOCSO and EIS, leave cover, training and software. Compare the full workload against the package fee, not salary against fee alone.

Do I still need an auditor or a tax agent?

Yes, where the law requires them. A Sdn Bhd appoints an auditor each year unless it qualifies for audit exemption, and Form C is prepared and submitted by a licensed tax agent. WeCount prepares clean books and schedules for them; regulated services are delivered through appropriately authorised partners where required.

How do we move from our current accountant to WeCount?

Agree a cut-off date, usually a month end, and collect the trial balance, general ledger, latest financial statements, fixed asset register and open receivables and payables. We set the opening balances, reconcile the first month and carry on from there.

Does outsourced accounting include e-Invoice?

Yes. As of October 2026, businesses with annual turnover below RM3 million are exempt from e-Invoice unless a related-company exclusion applies. If you must or choose to e-invoice, we support your MyInvois submissions, consolidated e-Invoices and the reconciliation of e-invoiced sales to your bank.
